PROBLEM:
Reimagine a standard 54-card playing deck through an abstract, conceptual lens by replacing traditional symbols with a custom visual system. Apply a cohesive modular design approach across all card faces, backs, and the outer packaging.

BACKGROUND RESEARCH: I looked at how traditional playing cards are structured to understand what needed to stay familiar, then explored desert landscapes, rock formations, paintings from lizzie wenger and color palettes for visual inspiration. This research helped guide the deck’s overall system and style.

INITIAL SKETCHES / INSPIRATION

SOLUTION
: I designed a cohesive 54-card playing deck inspired by the Utah desert, replacing traditional card symbols with a custom visual system drawn from desert forms and textures. Using a modular approach, I applied consistent color, pattern, and composition across all cards and packaging to create a unified, contemporary deck.
